Story

The AMA Project is a bold, long-term collaboration between fourth-generation Carmo de Minas producer Luiz Paulo, Saša Šestić – founder of ONA Coffee and Project Origin – and the broader Project Origin team. Named after the Ama, the female pearl divers of Japan who descend in search of rare treasures, the project sees nearly 100 hectares of Geisha planted across Carmo Coffee's farms to demonstrate that Brazil can produce Geisha of the same fragrant, complex quality as Panama or Ethiopia. Built around carbonic maceration techniques developed through years of experimentation, each 'pearl' in the collection is processed differently. The Blush series represents a nitrogen-flushed CM Washed approach that prioritises floral clarity and fruit brightness – with Lot 1 as the most delicate and luminous expression in the collection.

Origin

Carmo de Minas, Brazil

Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer, accounting for approximately 30–40% of global supply. Coffee first arrived in the early 18th century and by the 1840s Brazil had become the world's dominant exporter. Minas Gerais accounts for nearly half the country's total crop, and Mantiqueira de Minas – in the south of the state – was awarded Protected Geographic Indication status in 2011 in recognition of its distinct terroir and consistently high cup quality. The region is typically characterised by floral and citrus notes, creamy body, and long, sweet finishes. Carmo de Minas sits at the heart of Mantiqueira and is home to some of Brazil's most celebrated specialty producers, including the Carmo Coffee family whose farms are central to the AMA Project.
