“I’d recommend trying this drink with a flavourful aged rum, I’m using my favourite HSE Black Sherif Agricole Rhum which has a great fruity and molasses flavour to compliment the coffee. If you choose a spiced rum for yours you can skip the chocolate bitters for a smoother flavour. The combination of rum and orgeat is seem in classic drinks like the mai tai. Not everyone has access to orgeat in their pantry so I’ve included a guide on making a substitute with simple pantry items.” – Danny

Coffee preparation: Espresso

Follow the standard recipe for the Black Betty blend here (you’ll need 30mL of espresso)

Ingredient preparation: Almond milk orgeat
Combine 50g muscovado sugar, 50g floral honey 100g almond milk and a good pinch of salt in a pan over low heat and still until all combined. Place in the fridge to cool.

Cocktail preparation:
30ml Chilled Black Betty espresso
30ml Rum
30ml Almond milk orgeat
Dash of chocolate bitters

 

Method: 
1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake hard until ice cold.

2. Strain into chilled coupe or martini glass and enjoy your boozy treat immediately.
