Not only is she a World Latte Art finalist, former national barista champion and London Coffee Masters champion, but Agnieska Rojewska has won the coffee world’s most coveted trophy.

Using a coffee sourced by Project Origin and roasted by ONA Coffee, Agnieska performed in the finals of the World Barista Championship yesterday at the World of Coffee expo, hosted by RAI Amsterdam. Coached by former World Barista Champion and ONA Coffee founder, Saša Šestić, Agnieska was announced as the first female World Barista Champion only hours ago.

Joining her in the finals were competitors from Switzerland, Canada, the Netherlands and New Zealand. The competitor from New Zealand, John Gordon, was also coached by the ONA Coffee team and placed 6th in the world.

ONA Coffee’s Head Roaster, Sam Corra was part of the coaching team for both competitors. W

“This is such a milestone for the world of coffee,” Sam said.

“Not only is she the first Polish champion, but the first woman to ever win the title. We are just so happy to be part of it.”

He said that working with Agnieska was inspiring and that the key ingredient was her nature as a humble and dedicated coffee professional.

“It really was a pleasure to work with her, she is so inspiring,” he said.

” The whole experience with her was unplanned, in a way. The PO [Project Origin] team had arranged to support her with coffee for the world stage and she came to visit us in Australia not for coaching, but to learn more about the coffee.”

“When she arrived and we got to know her, we realised how dedicated and genuine she was. We saw that with the right support, she could really succeed.”

Despite the coaching and support, Sam insists that the win is entirely due to the efforts of Agnieska and the producers.

“We were happy to sponsor and coach her, to supply the coffee and to showcase the work of Meseret and Ayana in Ethiopia, as well as the work of the Project Origin green bean team.”

“Agnieska was the one who turned it into a winning performance. We were just a means for her to succeed and showcase her talent.”

Agnieska used coffees from the CM Selections series sourced by Project Origin and roasted by ONA Coffee.
